Jimmy Graham discusses free agency and offseason training

John Snell John Snell

NEW ORLEANS, LA. (WVUE) - The New Orleans Saints have from February 17th to March 3rd to designate tight end Jimmy Graham as a franchise player, otherwise he will become a free agent March 11th.

General Manager Mickey Loomis is sure to place the tag on Graham if a long term contract cannot be agreed on before March 3rd but Graham is not letting the speculation affect his offseason "I get my work in wherever I am, I've been through a lockout, I've been through a regular season and shorter season so you know, I'm going to be ready when I'm called on."

Speaking today at a promotional event leading up to NBA All-Star weekend, Graham downplayed the speculation that his agent, Jimmy Sexton, will try to sell Graham as a wide receiver in order to earn the higher compensation of a receiver "That's not for me to decide, I'm going to do and I'm going to play whatever I'm asked to do or play, it's that simple."

As for Drew Brees' vocal lobbying to get his main target back, Graham joked "I talked to Drew last week up in New York at the Jimmy Fallon show and he told me what he had done the day before which is awesome, he's standing on top of desks.  That's my guy, he always will be and I'm always appreciative of everything that he does."
