NOPD working murder-suicide near Fair Grounds

NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) - New Orleans police are investigating what they believe is a murder-suicide near the Fair Grounds.

A police spokesman said the call came in Thursday just after 8 p.m. as members of the NOPD's Special Operations Division and Fifth District detectives were conducting a wellness check on the resident of a home in the 2800 block of Fortin Street.

Once inside, officers discovered the victims - a man and a woman - on the floor of a bedroom. The woman had been shot once; the man's gunshot wound appeared to be self-inflicted, police said.

Police said the couple may have been dead for as long as a day. The victims' identities have not been released.
