NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) - Something new will light the way for the Krewe of Muses this year. Keep an eye out for the first-ever all-female flambeaux troupe appropriately named "The Glambeaux."

In a news release, the Krewe announced the Glambeaux will parade with Muses on Thursday, Feb. 27. They say the 24-member group will be "fully costumed in fire colors and wielding their torches to a choreographed soundtrack."

Glambeaux Captain Dani Johnson says she got the idea while watching last year's Muses parade. She says when one of the flambeaux carriers stopped in front of where she was standing, she asked if he thought women could physically carry and handle the flambeaux.

"His answer was yes, and that was the beginning of the Glambeaux," said Johnson.

Johnson says any tips the Glambeaux receive along the route will go to a non-profit called "Women With a Vision." According to the news release, the organization's mission is to improve the lives of marginalized women, their families, and the community by addressing the social conditions that hinder their health and well-being.
