Orleans Sheriff's Deputy fires at robbery suspect


NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) -- The New Orleans Police Department and the Orleans Parish Sheriff's Department are searching for a suspect who robbed a business in Algiers. The incident occurred Sunday at 2:00 p.m. in the 4100 block of Behrman Highway. 

According to police, the suspect entered the business and demanded money from the cashiers. Once the suspect obtained the money, he fled the store. An Orleans Parish Sheriff's Deputy, who was working detail, chased the suspect who got inside of a maroon Ford Taurus with tinted windows and fled. The suspect nearly hit the deputy with the car. The deputy fired his gun at the car, possibly hitting the vehicle's driver side front door. Police do not know if the driver was struck. No one else was injured. 

The suspect fled down Behrman Highway toward General Degualle. The deputy was able to get a partial license plate of WX. The suspect is described as a black male, around 30 years of age, dark-skinned with a low cut haircut. He is around 5'2"-5'6" tall. He was wearing a dark-colored hoodie and black pants.
