Boil water advisory in effect for select subdivisions in St. Tammany Parish

SLIDELL,  LA (WVUE) - Major subdivisions in St. Tammany Parish are under a boil water advisory after losing water pressure Friday night.

Cross Gates, The Bluffs, The Landings, Turtle Creek and Willow Wood are all included in the advisory.

According to a release put out by the parish, a significant leak developed near the intersection of Cross Gates Boulevard and Old Military Road that required Tammany Utilities to turn off the water to the area.

The boil water advisory was put into affect as a precaution and in accordance with the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospital regulations guidelines.

St. Tammany Parish officials recommend that all citizens disinfect their water before consuming it (including fountain drinks), making ice, brushing teeth, or using it for food preparation or rinsing of foods by the following means:

Boil water for one (1) full minute in a clean container.  The one minute starts after the water has been brought to a rolling boil.  (The flat taste can be eliminated by shaking the water in a clean bottle, pouring it from one clean container to another, or by adding a small pinch of salt to each quart of water that is boiled.)

Parish officials believe the boil advisory will be lifted on Tuesday, Feb. 25.

Anyone with questions is asked to call Tammany Utilities at (985) 276-6400.
