New Orleans EMS: Two riders injured after falling from Carnival floats

NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) -- New Orleans paramedics responded to two incidents, Sunday, where riders were injured after falling from Carnival floats during the Krewe of Alla parade.

According to an New Orleans EMS spokesperson, the first call came in around 4:15 p.m.  A man fell off of the lower level of a float on St. Charles Avenue. He was transported to a local hospital in stable condition.

The second incident happened around 5:30 p.m. A man fell from the top level of a float at Lee Circle. He was rushed to the trauma center and he is listed in critical condition. The man's condition has been upgraded to stable as of Sunday night, according to a New Orleans EMS spokesperson.

"Our prayers go out to the riders and their families," said Frank Borne, President of the Krewe of Alla. "We are still investigating the incidents. We understand that the man who is in critical condition was wearing his tether, but it may not have been properly secured and he slipped out of it."

The New Orleans EMS reminds all riders that it is required by law to wear their tethers.
