Man sentenced for threats against Jim Letten

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - A 57-year-old Baton Rouge man has been sentenced for threatening to murder former U.S. Attorney Jim Letten and members of Letten's family.
U.S. District Judge James J. Brady on Tuesday sentenced Gerald Estrade to three years and five months in federal prison, U.S. Attorney Walt Green said.
Estrade previously pleaded guilty to threatening to kill Letten in retaliation for his failure to help him when he reached out to him from state prison in 2005. He also served nearly 20 years for the 1988 manslaughter of his 10-year-old daughter.
Court records say Letten met Estrade in 1999 or 2001 while Letten walked his dog in New Orleans. Estrade allegedly told the FBI that Letten caused him problems over a threatening letter Estrade wrote in 2005 or 2006.
