Krewe leaders hope weather spares Uptown parades Wednesday

NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) - The floats are loaded and the Krewe of Nyx is ready to roll along the Uptown route Wednesday night.

Despite some expected rough weather, Nyx leaders say they're all systems go.

"Our plan is to roll no matter what, unless city officials tell us we can't," said Nyx Captain Julie Lea.

Temperatures will be dropping and rain is expected to fall Wednesday, but the NOPD still hopes to give Nyx and Druids the green light.

"If we can run the parades, and you don't have lightning and you don't have heavy winds and you don't have heavy rains, it's usually in everyone's best interest to run the parades," said Chief Ronal Serpas. "It is a last ditch decision to cancel a parade."

Nyx members know all too well they can still roll through the rain. It has happened the last two years.

"When you have rain, we had a light turnout, but this year, I know everybody's spirit is really high and, you know, we work hard all year making things and getting our throws ready to make it a great parade and so, that's what we're hoping for," said krewe member Rose Brocato.

Wednesday, krewe leaders and the NOPD plan to watch the forecast throughout the day, then make the decision.

Even with a little rain and chilly temperatures, members stress - the show will go on. They encourage crowds to come out and celebrate with them.

"We've got great stuff to throw," said Nan Adams. "We're packed. So, that's our whole motto is throw, throw."

"Bring the jackets, bring the kids, the raincoats. We're gonna have a wonderful time and a beautiful parade, so come see us," Lea said.

Druids is scheduled to roll at 6:30, with Nyx following at 7:00 Wednesday.
