St. John Sheriff: We are very close to solving this case

LAPLACE, LA (WVUE) - St. John Parish Sheriff Mike Tregre asks for the public's help in identifying two individuals they believe are responsible for Tuesday's murder and shooting of a man and woman during an armed robbery at  Laplace business.

At a Wednesday morning news conference, Sheriff Tregre said investigators have obtained surveillance video that clearly shows two subjects. One of them is carrying the cash register stolen during the robbery.

Tregre says investigators believe the cash register is still in close proximity to the crime scene, but have not recovered it yet.

"We are fairly certain who know this person is, but we want to be 100 percent sure. We believe the suspects live in the neighborhood. I believe if someone calls us we can probably have them incarcerated today," said Sheriff Tregre.

Two individuals were questioned Wednesday night, but deputies didn't have enough to keep them in custody. They were released, but not cleared of any involvement.

"Do the victims a favor. Help us do our job to apprehend these people. We are very close to solving this case. Tell us who the two people are," he said.

Steven Finckbeiner and his wife Constance were shot during the robbery at LaPlace Feed and Supply in the 100 block of Sleepy Redwood Street. Steven died as a result of his injuries. Constance was taken to University Hospital in New Orleans.

Anyone who can identify the subjects is encouraged to call the St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff's Office TIPS line at 985-359-TIPS or Crimestoppers at 504-822-1111. Citizens with information about this incident that call Crimestoppers do not have to testify in court and may qualify for a cash reward.
