LPSO: Convicted felon arrested after firing assault rifle in residential neighborhood

NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) -- Lafourche Parish Sheriff's Deputies have arrested a Thibodaux man for firing several shots from an assault rifle in a residential neighborhood. The incident occurred Monday around 1:30 a.m. near the intersection of Due Drive and East Winder Road in Thibodaux.

Police say that deputies responded to the 100 block of Due Drive after receiving calls of multiple gunshots being fired. When officers arrived on scene, they found a man, a woman and an AK-47 rifle sitting on the trunk of a car. As officers approached the man, he began to walk away but was quickly taken into custody. The man was identified as Marc Soudelier and following a brief search, he was found in possession of ammunition for the rifle. During their investigation, deputies found out that Soudelier was visiting a friend and became upset. He returned to the residence where he fired several shots from the rifle into the ground.

Soudelier was arrested and charged with illegal discharge of a firearm and illegal possession of a firearm. Soudelier has previous arrests for drug and weapons convictions. He was transported to the Lafourche Parish Detention Center where he is being held on a $60,000 bond.
