Magazine clothing store video captures armed robbery

NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) - Sixth District detectives are asking the public's help in identifying a man wanted for the armed robbery of a Garden District clothing store.

The robbery happened Thursday at 2:40 p.m. in the 3300 block of Magazine Street.

Police said the man spent nearly two hours asking the store's employees their opinions on different articles of clothing. The suspect then walked to the cash register as if he was about to check out, produced a semi-automatic pistol and demanded cash from the clerk. He fled with money and clothing.

The suspect is described as a black man in his mid-20s with a medium to muscular build and a trimmed mustache and beard. He was last seen wearing tortoise shell glasses, a black and gold Saints cap, a gray pullover cardigan sweater and dark-colored pants.

The incident was captured on the store's video surveillance system. A second video showing the man leaving the store can be viewed here.

Anyone with information about the suspect is asked to call Crimestoppers at (504) 822-1111.
