New Slidell mall to open March 14

SLIDELL, LA (WVUE) - Slidell leaders cut the ribbon on a new steak house, one of many welcomes for the new Fremeaux Town Center. Stores like Best Buy, Dick's Sporting Goods, Kohl's, Anna's Linens, Michaels, and T.J. Maxx are ready for the grand opening March 14.

Stirling Properties completed the first phase of the 400-acre site in 18 months. Carl Knoll drove from  Diamondhead to see the new development.

"My wife is real excited with the Kohl's and the shopping," he said.

Slidell Mayor Freddy Drennan says the center will be a new revenue source for the city. Shoppers are already scoping the place out, only a couple of stores are open now.

"Northshore Square for years and years was our major shopping center. Now we hope they'll dovetail together to continue to bring new stores," the mayor said.

Olde Towne Slidell is not far from the new development, a sleepy part of town that has specialty shops and eateries.
"It's not a threat to us," said Frank Jackson of the Slidell Soda Shop. "We've built our business since 1988 on repeat customers."

Councilman Lionel Hicks stood in the new development and stressed Olde Towne is completely different.

"You're going to have your antique shops there and specialty stores for people not looking for this type of shopping," He said.

Frank Jackson keeps making nectar soda's in Olde Towne at his shop and says, "We hope people at that development will make their way here and the lucky ones will."
