Feral hog shooting squad will take to the skies this week

NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) - Hog hunters plan to try and kill as many as 300 feral hogs a day this week in South Louisiana.

The Department of Wildlife and Fisheries says a helicopter shooting squad will fly over portions of the Sherburn and Pearl River wildlife management areas.

Officials estimate there are more than a half-million feral hogs on the loose in Louisiana.

The LDWF is also accepting applications for an experimental spring/summer feral hog trapping season on select wildlife management areas around the state.

The experimental season will run from May 1 to Aug. 31 in Boeuf, Clear Creek, Jackson-Bienville, Manchac, Pearl River, Richard K. Yancey, Sherburne, Thistlethwaite and West Bay.

Applications will be accepted through April 4, and forms can be obtained via the LDWF website or by calling (225) 765-2346.
