2 cars spray-painted with racial slur on 4 separate occasions

A Middletown woman's cars were spray-painted with racial slurs on multiple occasions, according to police.

On Monday and on Tuesday, police said two separate vehicles belonging to the same person were spray-painted with a racial slur. The same resident's motor vehicle was spray-painted with a racial slur twice in November 2013.

"What's being posted on my cars is move out 'n word' and that was on my 2014 Camry and my Altima, the same thing," said Lawanda Perry of Middletown.

Police said it happened in front of Perry's apartment on West Silver Street.

"It's kind of hard to keep going upstairs and seeing this early in the morning and having to go tell her that her cars have been vandalized," said Arviona Perry, Lawanda Perry's daughter.

Investigators said they believe it is an "isolated incident." However, police are increasing patrols in that area after there were four reported incidents.

"It's very nerve-wracking," Lawanda Perry said. "I'm very distraught. I'm very concerned about the safety of my family."

The incident remains under investigation by the Middletown Police Investigative Services Division. Police said they spent part of Tuesday talking to neighbors and trying to get information that can help them with the case.

They also said they were taking this seriously.

Lawanda Perry said she's lived in her apartment for eight months and this is the fourth time this has happened. The first two incidents happened in November and the last two happened this week, she said.

She's hoping that sharing her story with Eyewitness News will help put a stop to it and get peace and justice for her family.

"Full maximum penalty," said Lawanda Perry. "Whatever that calls for."

"I hope that it just stops or whatever because it's ridiculous now," Arviona Perry said.

If a suspect is arrested, police said that person will face several charges including criminal mischief and a misdemeanor hate crime charge, which could be upgraded to a felony.

Anyone with any information is asked to call the Middletown Police Department at 860-638-4000.
