NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) - People using computers running one of Microsoft's old operating systems need to consider getting an upgrade.

Microsoft says its abandoning Windows XP next month.

People who depend on the 12-year-old system won't be offered software upgrades or patches to fix bugs. They also won't have defenses against viruses and other online dangers.

Technology experts note hackers and scammers will likely target XP users in the coming months.

The operating system's phase-out date is set for April 8.
