Darren Sproles traded to Eagles

NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) - The New Orleans Saints trade running back Darren Sproles to the Philadelphia Eagles.

The Saints will get a fifth-round draft pick in return.

Sproles tweeted a farewell to Saints fans a few days ago saying, "thank you New Orleans for your support over the past 3 years! I will always be forever grateful."

Number 43 was an instant hit with the Saints in 2011 where he became a triple threat in the run, receiving and return game.

Last year, Sproles production slipped in the run and return phases.

The move was made to balance a budget. Sproles carried a cap hit of $4.25 million. His release gave the Saints $3.5 million.
