GIBSON, LA (WVUE) -

A Terrebonne Parish mom is in jail after police say she admitted to violently shaking her newborn son causing severe head trauma.

According to the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff's Office, Tina Simpson, 19, of Houma, shook and threw the infant multiple times in the air and in his bassinette Tuesday morning.

Officers responded to a home in Gibson after someone called police to report the child was having a seizure. When police arrived, the infant was breathing, but not responsive.

The baby was taken to Terrebonne General Medical Center where it was determined that the child suffered from massive head trauma including multiple skull fractures and extensive internal brain bleeding.

The infant was then transported to a hospital in New Orleans where he is currently in critical condition.

The mother was arrested for one count of attempted second degree murder.
