Houma mom in custody after children die in fire

HOUMA, LA (WVUE) - A Houma mother is in custody in connection with the deaths of her two young children, according to Houma Police.

     
Vaneshia valentine faces manslaughter charges after two-year-old Romell Welsh Jr. and his one year-old sister Ro'miya died of smoke inhalation from a fire on March 15th.
   
Investigators say Valentine and the children's father left the kids home alone before the fire started.
     
Detectives are still looking for the father, Romell Welsh Sr. who also faces manslaughter charges.

The fire destroyed the home in the 500 block of Hobson Street in Houma. Fire investigators say the blaze started in a garbage can in the kitchen.
