NOPD investigates string of armed robberies

NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) - The NOPD is investigating three armed robberies took place Wednesday night.

A woman and her husband were robbed at gunpoint in the 900 block of Chartres Street around 9 p.m. Police say two men, one with a gun, came up to a couple and demanded the woman's purse. The 64 year-old refused to give it up.

Her husband fought one of the men who hit his wife in the head with the gun. They fled the scene in a SUV with her purse. She was treated at the hospital. Surveillance video can be viewed here.

A second armed robbery took place around the same time at Conti Street and Bernadotte. Four men, at least one with a gun, approached two men and demanded their property. The victims complied and the robbers fled with two cell phones and cash.

About two hours before that, New Orleans police say two people entered a business in the 1200 block of St. Roch.

The suspects used a gun to get a bartender to open the cash register and remove all the money then fled the scene.
