BENNETTSVILLE, SC (WMBF) – According to police, a Bennettsville Intermediate School employee had an 8-year-old student urinate in a cup to give to a man who was afraid he wouldn't pass a drug test for a new job.

Bobby McLaurin went to the school and talked to employee Chenell Cain Thursday because he was afraid he would not pass a drug test for a new job, according to Lt. Larry Turner with the Bennettsville Police Department. Lt. Turner explained Cain shadows a class at the school, escorting students in the hall and offering additional supervision.

Cain told officers she didn't need to use the restroom, so they brought the student into the restroom to urinate in a cup. Police believe the intent was to turn in that urine sample for the drug test.

The child then went to the assistant principal and told him what happened, and police were notified. Cain, an employee who shadows a special needs classroom, and McLaurin were arrested and charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

However, now parents want to know how McLaurin got in the school in the first place and why Cain was allowed to put the child in such a situation.

After making multiple phone calls to the Marlboro Country School District – the district declined to release a statement, simply saying if and when the district decides to discuss the situation we will be notified. The school refused to make any comment on safety procedures or if Cain will be investigated or disciplined

Bond was set at $5,000 for each McLaurin and Cain Friday morning. Both posted bond and were released.
