NOFD district chief charged with stalking

Updated:
NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) -

A New Orleans Fire Department district chief is facing stalking allegations.

Chris Mickal, 58, was in Municipal Court Monday morning. He pleaded not guilty to one charge of stalking.

New Orleans police say a woman received an anonymous, sexually explicit letter, which she turned over to detectives. Officers identified Mickal as the person that wrote the letter.

Detectives issued an arrest warrant for Mickal over the weekend. They also searched his house and confiscated evidence.

The court issued a stay away order for the veteran firefighter. The investigation is ongoing, according to the NOPD.

The NOFD has reassigned Mickal to administrative duty effective immediately pending the outcome of the case.

Neither Mickal nor his attorney would comment after this morning's hearing.
