NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) - The Saints rarely go into a draft without addressing all their needs first in free agency. This allows them to take their preferred "highest grade" or "best player" approach.
That's why the Champ Bailey visit makes sense. With Jabari Greer's release, the Saints had not addressed the hole at cornerback opposite Keenan Lewis until this point. Patrick Robinson is coming off an injury and unlike Joe Morgan on offense, his play in 2012 didn't instill a ton of confidence. Corey White may be better suited for the nickel position and Rod Sweeting may not be there yet skill-wise.
Realistically, Bailey is 35, and his best days may be behind him. He certainly is not the long-term answer at the position, but if he still has any gas left in the tank, he may be worth a one-year deal.
We'll know soon if it gets done.
