Couple's deaths classified as homicide by coroner's office

The Orleans Parish Coroner's Office has officially classified the deaths of a Reserve couple as homicides after initial autopsy reports showed the couple died of drowning.

The bodies of Lakeitha and Kenneth Joseph were found floating in the Intracoastal Waterway in March. Autopsies originally showed the couple died of drowning.

Friday, Dr. Frank Minyard classified the deaths as homicides. Court documents show the feet of both Kenneth and Lakeitha were bound with a blue nylon rope. The rope on Kenneth was tethered to the handle of a 30 pound kettlebell in an effort to weigh his remains down under the surface of the water.

The coroner now says it appears the couple was tied up before going into the water, making the deaths a homicide.

The investigation has taken many twists and turns over the past couple of months. The couple went missing back on Feb. 19. Their Reserve home was found unlocked and ransacked. Their dodge minivan was later found abandoned in Atlanta, GA.

A recent search warrant showed police obtained blood evidence from inside of the van. Also the search warrant revealed police checked a Walmart in Kenner where surveillance video shows a man and woman buying two kettlebells and other items on Feb. 19, the morning the couple disappeared.

The New Orleans Police Department is not releasing a lot of information about the case, only that it is an ongoing investigation. If you know anything that could help solve the case, call Crimestoppers at 504-822-1111.
