THIBODAUX, LA (WVUE) - A 10-year-old boy is in custody after he allegedly brought a loaded handgun to a Thibodaux school Wednesday.
According to the Lafourche Parish Sheriff's Office, administrators at Thibodaux Elementary School learned that a student was in possession of a .380 caliber automatic pistol. A school resource officer confiscated the weapon after it was found in the student's school bag.
After investigating, detectives determined that the boy brought the gun to school to show it to his friends, according to the sheriff's office. The gun belongs to the boy's stepfather, and detectives said they do not suspect the boy had any intention of firing the weapon or hurting anyone.
The boy is currently at the Juvenile Justice Facility in Thibodaux pending a hearing in Thibodaux City Court. The boy's name is not being released because of his age.
