Police search for teenager who allegedly killed woman in broad daylight

Police are reaching out to the public for help finding an alleged killer whose crime put a Central City school on temporary lockdown.

The shooting happened on April 14 in the 2300 block of Josephine St. The New Orleans Police Department said Johntrell "John John" Washington, 17, fatally shot Racquel Gillard, 38, around 2:30 p.m. Officers found Gillard suffering from several gunshot wounds. She died later at an area hospital.

The school in the area was put on lockdown as a precaution.

An arrest warrant was issued for Washington's arrest after an investigation. His last known address is in the 3100 block of Cambrone St.

Officers warn he is armed and dangerous.
