NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) - A complaint about the death of an inmate at St. Bernard Parish Prison prompts FBI agents to get involved.
Sheriff Jimmy Pohlmann says his office is putting its investigation of Nimali Henry's death on hold to allow the FBI to conduct an investigation first. FBI agents say they're getting involved because circumstances surrounding Henry's death suggest her civil rights may have been violated.
Sheriff Jimmy Pohlmann says a sheriff's office employee tried to save Henry's life in April when he found her unconscious and not breathing on the floor of her cell.
Nimali's relatives say she needed medication for a rare blood disorder while she was in custody. They claim they were unable to get her the attention she required.
