Jefferson Parish public schools see dramatic improvement

JEFFERSON PARISH, LA (WVUE) - Jefferson Parish public schools and students are higher-performing than they were three years ago and the district's progress is outpacing statewide gains, according to the "Jefferson Parish Public Schools 2013-14 Status Report" released Friday.

The report analyzed a variety of performance indicators published by the Louisiana Department of Education. By nearly every metric, Jefferson Parish schools have seen dramatic improvement throughout the past two to three school years.

Among the achievements published in the report are the following:

  • The average ACT score among Jefferson Parish public school students increased by 0.6 points
  • In 2013, 16,376 students were attending schools rated as A or B, compared to 5,843 students in 2011
  • Graduation rates jumped by 8.9 percentage points from the 2009-10 school year to the 2011-12 school year
