Baton Rouge man killed in fiery crash on La. 40

TANGIPAHOA PARISH, LA (WVUE) -

A man was killed Friday in a single-vehicle crash in Tangipahoa Parish.

The accident happened at about 1:20 p.m. on La. 40 at mile marker 23.5 near Global Wildlife. The victim was identified as 34-year-old Cory Casto of Baton Rouge.

According to State Police, Casto was driving a 2007 Chevrolet Suburban eastbound on La. 40 when he veered left, traveled off of the roadway and struck a tree. The Suburban exploded on impact and became fully engulfed in flames. Castro received fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Tangipahoa Parish Coroner's Office. 

Due to the fire, it is unknown if Casto was restrained or if impairment was a factor.  A blood sample was collected and toxicology tests are pending. The crash remains under investigation.
