Motorcyclist, pedestrian killed in overnight car accidents

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - A motorcyclist and a pedestrian were killed in two separate traffic accidents Friday night.

The first accident occurred around 10 p.m. on I-610 eastbound just before the St. Bernard Avenue exit. The driver said he was traveling in the middle lane when his rear tire blew out, causing him to lose control of the car. According the police, the driver spun out of control just before a female motorcyclist rear ended the car. The cyclist was thrown off her motorcycle and pronounced dead on the scene.

The second accident occurred shortly after at 10:05 p.m. near the intersection of Chef Menteur Highway and Michoud Boulevard. A 76-year-old man was driving a pickup truck down Chef Highway when for an unknown reason, a male pedestrian walked into the road.

The pedestrian was thrown several feet from the impact and died on the scene.

Neither driver was cited in either accident.

NOPD is still investigating both incidents.
