Police arrest suspect in Vacherie shooting, faces multiple charges

VACHERIE, LA (WVUE) - A convicted felon again faces multiple charges stemming from a shooting on May 27 in Vacherie.

Lavell Gant, 36, was arrested in connection to a shooting last Tuesday in the 2100 block of Church Street. Officers arriving on the scene found Ansley Jackson, 31, shot in the right leg. Authorities say that Acadian Air Med was dispatched due to a large amount of blood the victim had lost.

Detectives investigating the incident say that the shooting was the result of an altercation between Ansley and Gant.

Officers say they found evidence directly linking Gant to the crime at Gant's home, located in the 1200 block of Old Vacherie Street.

Gant was arrested and charged with attempted murder, possession of a stolen firearm, carrying a firearm by a convicted felon and aggravated assault.

Gant is being held at the St. James Parish Jail on a $200,800 bond.

Jackson is in currently in stable condition at LSU Interim Public Hospital.
