Police: Woman arrested for DWI after almost hitting cars head-on

HOUMA, LA (WVUE) - A woman was arrested Wednesday after Houma officers responding to a call of a female sleeping behind the wheel arrived to find her driving erratically and nearly hitting vehicles head-on, according to a news release from Chief Todd Duplantis.

Officers initiated a traffic stop in the area of Lafayette Street, and saw that the woman, identified as 36-year-old Jerrimy Davenport, of Ville Platte, appeared to be highly intoxicated, the release said.

After failing a field sobriety test, Davenport was arrested for DWI and taken Houma Police Department, where another test showed that her blood alcohol level was .225g percent – nearly three times the legal limit.

Davenport was booked with DWI, reckless operation, driving with a suspended license and having an open container of alcohol in her vehicle.

She remains at the Terrebonne Parish Jail awaiting trial or bond.
