Hammond homeowner shot and killed by intruder

HAMMOND, LA (WVUE) - A Hammond homeowner was shot and killed early Monday morning by an intruder, according to the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office.

The shooting happened around 12:30 a.m. on Bailey Drive in Hammond.

Police say the residents were awakened by the sound of their back door being kicked in. Within moments, the homeowner, 30 year old Brandon Simms, exchanged gunfire with the intruder.

Simms died on scene.

After the shooting, the alleged suspect(s) fled the home in an unknown direction.

The only information police have at this time regarding the alleged suspect is that he is an unknown black male.
