Man carjacked after dropping women off in Algiers Point

Police are looking for the gunman who carjacked a man early Wednesday morning in Algiers Point.

The incident happened at about 1:30 a.m. in the 800 block of Belleville Street.

The victim said he was at a business in the area when he was approached by a woman he knows only as "Moonie" who asked him for a ride home.

The victim brought Moonie and her female friend to the intersection of Homer and Belleville streets. When he stopped, the women got out of the car and a black male with a white bandanna around his face approached the victim and produced a handgun, saying "get out the car and give me everything in your pockets."

The victim exited the car, pushed the gun aside and ran. The perpetrator fired several shots at the victim but did not hit him.

While he was on the phone with police, the victim saw his gold-colored 2000 GMC Yukon driving away from the scene.

The victim also noticed that the women were no longer in the area.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the Fourth District at (504) 658-6040.
