LAFOURCHE PARISH, LA (WVUE) -- -

A woman was pronounced dead, Sunday, after being struck by a vehicle in Lafourche Parish. The accident occurred Tuesday, just before 9:00 p.m. on Highway 654 in Gheens.

According to a Louisiana State Police Troop C spokesperson, 31-year-old Chantelle Ledet of Gheens was walking west in the eastbound lane of the highway, with her nine-year-old and 11-year-old children. Michael Head, 46, also of Gheens, was driving a pickup truck east on the highway when he struck Ledet.

Ledet was transported to Ochsner St. Anne Hospital where she was pronounced dead as a result of her injuries. Head, who was wearing his seat belt, as well as, both children were not injured in the crash. Police on scene found that Ledet was wearing dark-colored clothing and that the highway lacked street lights.

Police believe that Ledet may have been under the influence of alcohol. Results from a toxicology test are pending. Head was found to be under the legal limit of .08g% after submitting to a breath test. No charges have been filed at this time and the investigation into the crash continues.
