WALKER, LA (WAFB) -

The Walker Police Department identified a woman who was seen on surveillance video dumping at least one dog at Kent's Plumbing off Burgess Avenue in Walker, LA, however, police say the woman was trying to help the dog.

Owners of Kent's Plumbing reviewed their surveillance video Saturday and saw a woman take a dog to the business and leave without it. The business owners immediately called the Walker Police Department.

One employee tried to catch the dog, but was unable to. Employees with the business, along with officials and volunteers with the SPCA of Livingston have been searching the area for the missing dog.

If the dog is found, a foster family with the SPCA of Livingston Parish has already agreed to take care of it until a fur-ever home is found.

Captain John Sharp with the Walker Police Department says the woman claims she was trying to help the dog, so no charges will be filed against her.

"At this point, we have a credible explanation from the woman shown in the video. She contacted us, unsolicited, to say that she saw the dog in the road and fearing for its safety, she stopped and got the dog out of the road and to, at least  temporary, safety. There is no evidence to suggest that her story isn't credible. We are continuing to look for the dog and locate the dog's owner. If we uncover any additional information which indicates that the woman was not truthful with our officers, we will take appropriate action. We take all animal cruelty cases very seriously and within the last year, we have made several arrests on animal cruelty  charges," said Captain Sharp.

The dog has still not been located.
