LAPLACE, LA (WVUE) - Police say that a LaPlace man has now been arrested 14 times since 2009 after being charged with two counts of attempted murder and possession of a controlled substance Friday.
St. John the Baptist Parish officials say they responded to the 100 block of Sleepy Redwood Street in LaPlace on Friday afternoon after receiving reports of a disturbance involving weapons in the area.
Officers say that a victim, 26, claimed he was approached by two men armed with handguns while standing outside of his residence on Rosemart Court. As the victim fled from the suspects, he claims to have heard a gunshot, police say.
Following an investigation, police say they were able to identify one of the suspects as Ellis Batiste Jr., 21, of LaPlace. Deputies say they stopped a car on Marvin Gardens Street in LaPlace matching the description of the car Batiste occupied. Batiste was the driver of the car.
Batiste was arrested and was booked with two counts of attempted second-degree murder and possession of schedule IV CDS.
He is currently being held on a $500,000 bond. Officers say Batiste has been arrested 14 times in St. John the Baptist Parish since September 2009.
