Documents: Woman poses as officer, searches for drugs

Posted: Updated:

A bizarre story is unfolding out of West Branch, where a woman is accused of impersonating a federal agent.

According to court documents Michelle Morales-Gonzales forced her way into several homes with a phony badge, then coerced residents to provide her with urine samples.

Of the many things federal prosecutors allege in these documents, a motive is unknown, but what is known is that Gonzales terrorized some residents over the course of months.

Gonzales was charged in a U.S. district court for posing as a fake federal agent.

According to court documents she forced her way into homes and instructed at least four people to submit to drug testing.

Records show Gonzales had victims urinate in a 7-Eleven cup.

Most of the alleged impersonations, according to court records, took place because Gonzales suspected drug use was happening at a particular location.

In one case federal prosecutors said she tore paneling off a wall to search for drugs.

In another instance records show she forced a teenage boy to strip to his underwear to look for signs of drug use.

TV5 reached out to Gonzales' attorney for comment, but were declined an interview.

The Michigan State Police started the investigation back in January when they received a tip from a woman who said she was getting strange texts from someone claiming to be in law enforcement. The investigation was then handed over to the U.S. Attorney's Office.

Gonzales is currently out on bond and wearing a tether.

She is charged with illegally searching someone while impersonating a federal agent. If convicted she faces up to three years behind bars.
