Police seek suspect in French Quarter rape; second reported offense in 8 days

Police are searching for a suspect following an aggravated rape in the French Quarter. Officers said this is the second such offense reported in the past eight days.

A 21-year-old victim tells police that she was at a bar, located at the corner of Bourbon Street and Conti, on Thursday night when the incident occurred. The victim tells police that an unknown black male approached her and they began talking.

As the woman readied to leave the bar, the suspect offered to walk with her. The victim states they began walking and entered the 300 block of Decatur Street. Here, the victim states the suspect sexually assaulted her and took her cell phone and money.

This incident comes eight days after a separate rape was reported two blocks away, on Decatur Street near St. Louis Street, police said.

In that case, a 37-year-old woman told police she got separated from her husband while they were on Bourbon Street around midnight on June 12.

The woman claims she used a stranger's phone to call him several times, to no avail. Another man told her he knew where her husband was, and brought her to a "secluded area" off of Bourbon where he sexually assaulted her, police said.

Anyone with information on these crimes can call Crimestoppers at 504-822-1111.
