NOPD investigates two sexual assaults in French Quarter within several days

New Orleans Police are investigating after a 21-year-old woman reported being raped and robbed in the French Quarter Thursday night.

According to investigators, the incident began at a bar on the corner of Bourbon Street and Conti.

That's where the victim said a man bought her a drink, and later offered to walk with her when she decided to leave.

Then, somewhere in the 300 block of Decatur, the victim told detectives the man raped and robbed her.

News of the attack was unsettling for some in the French Quarter.

"It's incredibly sad. I think a lot of times, as women, we need to be a little bit more careful about how we conduct ourselves, because the world is not as safe as it used to be. I feel really, really bad for her and I hope that she's alright," said Paula Richards, a tourist from New York.

The attack happened just a few days after a similar report in that same area.

According to investigators, a man led a 37-year-old woman into a dark, secluded area along Decatur where he sexually assaulted her and then stole money from her purse.

NOPD officials said they are now working to determine whether the crimes may be connected. At this point, investigators haven't released a description of a suspect.
