La. Woman accused of tossing toddler from moving car

Updated:

WINNSBORO, La. (AP) - Authorities say a 23-year-old Winnsboro woman is facing attempted second-degree murder charges after allegedly tossing her daughter from a moving vehicle.

Franklin Parish sheriff's deputies arrested Lasasha Allen Sunday after she sought medical treatment for her 20-month-old daughter's injuries, which include a fractured skull and several broken bones.

The girl is in stable condition at University Health Shreveport.

Sheriff Kevin Cobb told The News-Star that Allen gave investigators different accounts of the incident, but later said she intentionally caused her infant to be tossed from a moving vehicle.

"She told the child's father the girl fell out of a window of the car and hurt herself and said her intention was to get a reaction from him so he came back," Cobb said.

Cobb said when the father didn't react the way she wanted, Allen set up the scenario to intentionally hurt the child and cover up her lie.

"She thought going around the curve the child would only receive minor injuries and she would get the attention she wanted and prove she was not lying," Cobb said. "We feel like this was premeditated and she was doing this for her benefit."

"It was a horrific act on her part. I hope the district attorney sees this case for what it is and justice moves quickly. All we can do at this point is pray for this child."

Allen's 7-year-old daughter was also in the vehicle, Cobb said.

Allen has five children. The others have been taken into state custody by Child Protective Services.

Allen was booked into the Franklin Parish Detention Center on a $750,000 bond.

It was unclear whether Allen has an attorney.
