Danshaun Hampton, 18, was already locked up for gun charges when police issued a warrant for his arrest.

According to the warrant, obtained by FOX 8, Hampton and another gunman opened fire on the St. Roch playground earlier this month.

"A car pulled up and a couple of guys started shooting," says Troy Glover.

Witnesses say there were 30 to 40 people at the playground. The warrant states, 17 year old Johan Kenner was sitting on a concrete structure when the bullets started flying.

People started to run for cover, but Kenner couldn't escape. The high school athlete was recovering from knee surgery to repair a torn ACL.

Kenner was shot and later died at the hospital.

Police say, through the course of the investigation, they identified Hampton as one of the suspects.

According to the warrant, Hampton, known on the street at ‘Moonie' is believed to be a member of the FMG gang.

Investigators say FMG stands for ‘Fast Money Gang'.

Detectives didn't have to go far to find him because Hampton had been arrested just days earlier for ‘felon with a firearm'.

The warrant doesn't state a motive or who the intended target may have been that night.

Kenner's mother, though, says her son was innocent and didn't deserve what happened to him.

"All he wanted to do is play sports, go to college and play sports. That's all he wanted to do and he had a loving heart," says Cortina Johnson-Cash.

The teen played football at Landry Walker High School. The school's athletic director described him as a hard working, personable young man.

Hampton is booked with second degree murder. He's being held in jail on a 750 thousand dollar bond.

Police are still searching for a second suspect in the case.
