Kenner Army veteran reunited with Military Working Dog

A Kenner Army veteran is reunited with Ryky, a Military Working Dog whom he worked alongside with in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Staff Sgt. James Harrington, a native of Kenner, Louisiana, served in the Marine Corps from 1995 to 2002 and then in the Army from 2003 to 2012 as a military police officer. He is currently stationed in Louisiana with the National Guard as a military police officer.

Ryky is a seven-year-old specialized Improvised Detection Dog who helped detect explosives. She served with Harrington for four years on two combat deployments in Iraq from 2008 to 2009 and in Afghanistan from 2010 to 2011.

Harrington is adopting Ryky to ensure she has a loving, forever home for her retirement and reintegration in the U.S. after a lifetime of service to her country.

"I plan to let Ryky be a dog and chill out on the couch. She's earned it," said Harrington.

The reunion was made possible by American Humane Association and Mission K9 Rescue. The nonprofit organizations work together to bring military working dogs back to the U.S. from combat abroad and reconnect them with their former handlers.

Each military working dog saves approximately 150 to 200 military service member lives.
