Man faces multiple charges after west bank police chase

HARVEY, LA (WVUE) - A man faces charges after leading police on a chase on the elevated Westbank Expressway that closed eastbound lanes at the Terry Parkway exit for about an hour.

The incident began at about 6:30 a.m. in the 1100 block of Manhattan Boulevard, according to Gretna Police Chief Public Information Officer Anthony Christiana. Christiana said a Gretna police officer was stopped at a convenience store when she saw a man at a hotel next door fire a gun.

The officer chased the man on foot, but he was able to make it to his vehicle and speed off. The officer followed in her cruiser as the man fled down Manhattan Boulevard and onto the elevated expressway, where he was stopped with the help of other Gretna officers and Jefferson Parish sheriff's deputies.

Dannie Conner, 30, of South Hennessey Street in New Orleans, was taken to the Jefferson Parish Correctional Facility and booked with illegal discharge of a weapon, aggravated criminal damage to property and resisting arrest by flight, according to JPSO spokesman Col. John Fortunato.

A search of Connor's van yielded a large amount of fireworks. Fortunato said JPSO and GPD have launched an investigation to find out where the fireworks came from.

While processing the initial scene at the hotel, technicians found several spent shell casings and are trying to determine if someone was shot.
