The head of the New Orleans Taxi Cab Bureau is out.
The city confirms the termination of Malachi Hull who took over the department in June of 2011.
At the time, Hull said his number one goal was to restore confidence in the taxicab bureau. Under his leadership, the Landrieu Administration put forth sweeping reforms in the industry, which many cabbies didn't like
Many tour guides called for Hull's resignation late last year. Tour operators protested over how he enforced rules and regulations, especially the way they say he mishandled an attack by an inspector on a tour guide.
A spokesperson for the city would only say that recent events prompted the city to ask the Office of Inspector General to review the taxicab bureau. That OIG report factored into the decision to terminate hull.
