NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) -

An 18-year-old man was shot in the hand while stopped in traffic in the French Quarter.

The shooting happened around 3 a.m. Monday near the intersection of Decatur and Toulouse streets. Officers say the man was stopped in traffic when someone opened fire.

The victim is hospitalized in stable condition. Police recovered at least three casings at the scene, and a bullet hole was visible in the wall of a nearby restaurant.

Officers have identified a suspect vehicle, observed by witnesses on Decatur Street and Toulouse. Police say the driver of the vehicle fired three rounds into the air, striking a victim driving the opposite direction in the hand.

Authorities say a late model silver Honda CRV fled down Decatur Street towards Esplanade Avenue.

Anyone with information on the incident is urged to contact 8th District detectives at 504-658-6080 or Crime Stoppers at 504-822-1111.
