NEW ORLEANS (AP) - The St. James Parish district attorney says a grand jury has brought a first-degree murder charge in the death of a 12-year-old girl whose body was found after nearly a week of searching.
District Attorney Ricky Babin tells The Associated Press that John Celestine was indicted Tuesday in the death of Talaija Dorsey.
Celestine is the fiance of Dorsey's mother, Emma Dorsey. Celestine had been held earlier on a charge of obstructing justice. He was booked Tuesday on the murder charge.
Dorsey was reported missing last Tuesday morning, when a friend stopped by her home to go to summer camp with her. Hundreds of volunteers joined police and sheriff's deputies in the search.
Sheriff Willy Martin found her body Sunday.
