Tropical Blog: NHC will likely upgrade wave

Updated:
NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) -

The tropical wave we continue to watch in the Atlantic remains well organized.  The National Hurricane Center will likely begin issuing advisories on the system later this morning. The well defined circulation shows showers and thunderstorms near the center. As the shower activity continues to become better organized it is very likely this will become the next official tropical system.

The good news is that this storm is still many hundreds of miles east of the islands. Computer models are in relatively close agreement that the storm will continue to move towards the Lesser Antilles, just clipping the Leeward's before traveling west-northwest and staying north of the Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico. Eventually the storm will make a turn northward near the Bahamas but keeping the storm away from the US.

A hurricane hunter flight will investigate the system later this afternoon. If you are traveling to the Eastern Caribbean this weekend you may want to call ahead as  the timing puts the storm in that region.
