Three Orleans Parish Sheriff's Deputies were treated for injuries were treated for injuries, Friday, following a scuffle with an inmate who was armed with a shank. The incident occurred Friday around 8:00 p.m. at the Conchetta Jail Facility.
According to an OPSO spokesperson, inmate Reginald Pye was holding an open Bible in his hands while standing on a table. Pye refused to follow the deputies orders of getting off the top of the table. He began jumping from table to table as deputies called for backup. Two of the deputies took Pye down and as he was being restrained, he pulled out a shank from beneath the Bible and swung it. He struck two of the deputies with the weapon, before being handcuffed with the help of a third deputy.
The three deputies, who received bites to the hand and cuts to arms, were treated at the hospital. All three have been released. Pye was also brought to the hospital for a mental evaluation.
Pye, who was already serving time for one count of first-degree murder, one count of aggravated second-degree battery and one count of second-degree cruelty to juveniles, will receive additional charges as a result of the scuffle. He will be charged with three counts of first-degree murder, one count of aggravated battery and one count of aggravated battery on a correctional officer.
