18-wheeler collides with Amtrak train in Amite

AMITE, LA (WVUE) -

The Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office is on scene a train wreck at the Diamond B Construction crossing on Hwy 51 in Amite.  A southbound Amtrak train collided with an 18 wheeler around 1:45 p.m. on Monday, according to police.

Highway 51 north of McMichael Church Road was closed in both directions for several hours as crews worked to clear the scene. Highway 51 has since re-opened.  

The driver of the 18-wheeler was taken to the hospital.    

All 139 passages on the train have been assessed and no injuries were reported.

    Firefighters with St. Tammany Fire District #4 conducted a water rescue in Mandeville Thursday.  Firefighters were dispatched to the scene where they found a crane had overturned and was submerged in a canal. According to the report, the operator was still underwater. Within four minutes of dispatch, firefighters arrived on scene. Along with the assistance of some of the work crew members, firefighters were able to quickly get the crane operator out of the water and to Fire D...
