WAFB sports reporter Jacques Doucet with LSU head coach Les Miles
HOOVER, AL (WAFB) -
LSU head coach Les Miles took to the podium on day three of SEC Media Days and did not disappoint those in attendance. The head coach believes that while the team is inexperienced in key positions, it is on the "cusp" of another national championship.
LSU will field a very young, but talented group of freshmen this season. The main attraction is running back Leonard Fournette. Miles compared the freshman from New Orleans to NBA great Michael Jordan, while running back Terrance McGee compared him to Minnesota Vikings star Adrian Peterson.
McGee said that, "Jeremy Hill was one of greatest players I've ever seen, but this guy Leonard Fournette will be one of greatest ever to wear LSU uniform."
Other than Fournette, Miles expects to see big contributions from incoming freshmen Brandon Harris (QB), Clifton Garrett (LB) and wide receivers Trey Quinn and Malachi Dupree.
As for the quarterback battle between Anthony Jennings and Brandon Harris, Miles said, "It's very likely we won't know the starting quarterback until kickoff vs Wisconsin."
Miles was asked about losing 18 juniors over the past two years and answered, "We do lead college football in three and outs."
As for the playoff system that starts this year, Miles believes, "the system is something college football wanted. It's a quality attempt. I think playoffs will expand."
